Nader Tehrani wins the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize

The American Academy of Arts and Letters announced the 2020 Architecture Award winners today. The Academy’s annual architecture awards program began in 1955 with the inauguration of the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize and has since expanded to include four Arts and Letters Awards. This year’s winners were chosen from a group of 34 individuals and practices nominated by the members of the Academy. The jurors were Annabelle Selldorf (chair), Peter Eisenman, Steven Holl, James Polshek, Billie Tsien, and Tod Williams. Nader Tehrani was selected as the recipient of the 2020 Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize, an award which is given “to an architect of any nationality who has made a significant contribution to architecture as an art.” Congratulations Nader!

Winning Formulas: Daniels in Special AIA COTE Top Ten issue

Last Spring the Daniels Building was selected as an AIA COTE Top Ten Award recipient. In an end-of-year reflection on AIA’s evolving measures of not only sustainability but on Design Excellence, ARCHITECT Magazine revisited the ten award-winning projects that “represent the pinnacle of green architecture”. On the Daniels Building Edward Keegan, AIA and Clay Risen write “From the beginning, [NADAAA and local architect Adamson Associates] saw the brief in three parts: make the building sustainable, make it a teaching tool for design students, and knit it back into the surrounding community. The overarching goal was to leverage the existing building’s resources wherever possible while minimizing the impact of new materials.”

“Architectural Conservancy Ontario recognizes and supports excellence in the heritage community through our annual Heritage Awards. These awards honour and celebrate the people who have made significant achievements in heritage preservation in the previous year. They recognize the work of professionals, groups, and individuals in their work to preserve community heritage, including advocacy, restoration, adaptive reuse, landscape heritage, and craftsmanship.”

The Architecture MasterPrize honors designs in the disciplines of architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture with the goal of advancing the appreciation of architecture worldwide. Daniels was selected as a top building in both the Education and Green categories.
